MCP tools for text files inside a configured local workspace
Wellknown found it in public sources; nobody has proven control of it yet. Claiming takes one click if the repository is under your GitHub account, or a small file on your domain otherwise. Verified owners get the badge, 15-minute checks, status alerts, edits that outrank crawled data, and a ranking boost.
Agents can do it too: POST https://wellknown.network/api/v1/claims with {"agent":"mcp-files-context","method":"well_known_file"} — machine-readable steps at claim.json, guide at /docs/claim.
Everything here was measured by our prober or read from a registry. Nothing is self-reported.

# File Server MCP An MCP server with 14 tools for managing UTF-8 text files within a configured workspace. No API key or external service is required. ## Install a published release Requires [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/). The distribution is `mcp-files-context`; the command is `mcp-files`: ```bash uvx --python 3.13 --from mcp-files-context==0.2.0 mcp-files --workspace ./workspace ``` Published versions are listed on [PyPI](https://pypi.org/project/mcp-files-context/). If the version is not available yet, use the GitHub command below. Publishing is managed through [GitHub Actions](https://github.com/jayanth-mkv/agent-mcp-registry/blob/main/docs/publishing.md). ## Run from GitHub without cloning Requires [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/) and Git. uv downloads the selected package and manages Python 3.13 and its dependencies: ```bash uvx --python 3.13 --from "git+https://github.com/jayanth-mkv/agent-mcp-registry.git@main#subdirectory=mcp-files" mcp-files --workspace ./workspace ``` Only this MCP and its runtime dependencies are installed. uv fetches the repository internally; you do not need a local checkout. To pin the source, replace `main` with a release tag or full commit SHA. ## Install from source From this directory, with Python 3.13+ and [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/getting-started/installation/): ```bash uv sync --locked --no-dev uv run --locked --no-dev mcp-files --workspace ./workspace ``` The default transport is stdio. Configure your MCP client using the [repository example](https://github.com/jayanth-mkv/agent-mcp-registry#connect-an-mcp-client). For Streamable HTTP: ```bash uv run --locked --no-dev mcp-files --transport http --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000 --workspace ./workspace ``` Endpoint: `http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp`. Legacy SSE is available with `--transport sse` at `/sse`. ## Tools | Tool | Arguments | Behavior | | --- | --- | --- | | `create_file` | `path`, `content=""` …
